Auteur-driven narrative and documentary work produced by a seasoned Los Angeles crew. Development, principal photography, and post — with creative control kept in the filmmaker's hands.

📺

New Media Production

Storytelling built for the platforms audiences actually watch. Web series, short-form content, and streaming-ready programming produced with the same care as our feature work.

🎥

Web Video Production

Concept, shoot, and edit for promos, brand films, and social video. Cinematic craft scaled to a web audience and delivered in the formats you need.

🌐

Websites & SEO

Websites and search-optimized digital presence for artists, brands, and productions — so the work gets seen once the cameras stop rolling.

Devin Lockett — Writer, Director, and the Vision Behind the Studio

Lockett Productions is organized around a simple idea: that a film is strongest when a single creative point of view runs through every department. That is the essence of the auteur tradition in filmmaking — the notion, developed by critics and directors over decades, that a director's sustained vision can give a body of work its coherence and voice.

Leading a Los Angeles team as writer and director means holding that vision across development, principal photography, and post while still relying on the craft of a full crew. Independent, founder-led studios operate this way by necessity and by choice: smaller teams, tighter creative control, and a willingness to make the personal, specific choices that distinguish a distinctive film from a generic one.

Behind the Camera

Hands-on direction means staying involved from the first concept meeting through the final take on set. On an independent production, the director often works closely with the cinematographer to shape framing, lens choice, and lighting so that each shot serves the story rather than simply capturing coverage.

That craft is a collaboration. The director sets intent; the camera and lighting departments translate it into images, blocking actors and camera moves to build a scene. Working through concept, blocking, and multiple takes is how a shoot arrives at footage that will actually cut together in the edit — the practical discipline behind a finished film.

The Auteur Approach

The auteur approach treats the film as the expression of a director's personal vision, an idea rooted in mid-20th-century film criticism and carried forward by generations of independent filmmakers. In practice it means making specific, deliberate choices — in story, casting, image, and sound — rather than defaulting to formula.

For an independent studio, that ethos is also a business posture. Keeping creative control in the filmmaker's hands allows for personal, uncompromising work, but it depends on doing the unglamorous parts well: development, budgeting, and post-production discipline. The goal is films that feel authored, made with intent from first frame to last.

The 2026 production landscape

Why the moment favors a founder-led, full-service studio like Lockett Productions.

Production is back in LA

Los Angeles logged 5,121 on-location shoot days in Q1 2026 — up 10.7% from late 2025 — as California's expanded film & TV tax incentive drew production back to the region. For a studio based in the Los Angeles area, that means more work, more locations, and more collaborators nearby. Source: FilmLA Q1 2026 report; industry analysis.

A booming indie market

Worldwide spending on films budgeted under $5M grew from roughly $880M to $1.22B — strong demand for the independent, auteur-driven productions at the core of what Lockett Productions builds end to end. Source: industry analysis.

Studio-grade, reaching direct

Falling LED-volume rental rates and AI-assisted editing and VFX put studio-grade tools within reach of a full-service team, while creators reach audiences directly through email lists, memberships, and private screenings — the exact new-media channels we produce for. Source: industry analysis.
